Overcome Your Fears Through Commitment

Since mid-April we have been exploring and developing this concept of the Ideal Client. If you have followed along, you have a well-defined marketing plan for working with clients you enjoy, providing a service they value. You are finding that you have more time in your schedule; that your outreach efforts for new clients are “effortless” and you have more space and resources to do the other things you love in life.

Oh, that hasn’t quite happened for you yet? Don’t fret; it takes time and not just for your marketing efforts to have effect. It takes time for you to grasp the concept and until you fully embrace it, you will continue to struggle.

I also struggled until I fully committed to my Ideal Client, financial advisors. In my transition from advising clients on their finances to coaching the whole person, my passion overtook me. I wanted to save the world through coaching. I still do, although now I realize the best way for me to accomplish my purpose is to focus my energies on working with financial advisors who value the experience and process I bring to help them grow their businesses or get their lives back out of their busines

It has been two years since I first reviewed my client list and realized just who my Ideal Client was. With great gusto, I focused my sights on marketing to financial advisors, only to find myself deviating from that path again and again. Fear was always the culprit. Fear that if I limit my marketing I will have fewer clients. Fear that if I say who I serve best, no one else will be interested in my services.

Once I committed, I found my fear was unfounded. Financial advisors value the fact that I focus my energies on serving them; that I have a wealth of experience, from my years as an advisor, and from the variety of financial service professionals I serve. Instead of fewer clients, I have more.

Do I still work with non-financial types? Yes, I do. These clients find me through referrals, word-of-mouth marketing and my network. I do not focus my marketing energies outside of financial services.

I now have more time to continue enhancing my coaching skills and building my knowledge base for the clients I serve. I have more time to serve my clients. My client roster is bigger and I have more time (and energy) for the things outside of coaching that I enjoy. The same is possible for you.
