Leaders are born and made. Individuals can be taught the skills that enable them to lead others. Simply learning the skills is not sufficient. Emerging leaders need development that provides a way to apply these skills with an understanding of individual workstyles…theirs and others'.

Accelerate Growth with a Group

Group leadership development provides a process for a group of people from across an organization to grow as leaders, learning with and from each other. The different workstyles inherent in a group provide the opportunity to apply and practice leadership skills in a safe environment while also building cross organizational connections.

This 6 month program is intended for new or emerging leaders that want to learn, practice and develop skills for leading others.

Program Structure

Strategy Session

Initial meeting with Sponsor to understand the organization’s short and long-term goals, and culture and leadership skills needed to deliver on objectives for those goals. This meeting informs the development of the curriculum for the group and will identify the outcomes desired and means for measuring results.

Birkman Assessment & Discovery

A tool for the assessment of leaders and teams, it measures 3 key perspectives relative to workplace performance. Assessment results are utilized to understand the different workstyles of group members, to observe any cultural effects and as a tool to understand interpersonal dynamics, communication styles, to strengthen emotional intelligence, and to identify behavioral change and habits to support achievement of the organization's goals.

Leader Development Curriculum

Utilizing insights gathered from the Sponsor and the Birkman assessment, a Leader Development curriculum is designed. It includes educational components as well as experiential activities for the group sessions. Homework assignments are developed to be completed between the monthly group sessions. Common curriculum topics include emotional intelligence, high performing teams, communication, feedback, difficult conversations, managing and leading.

Curriculum Delivery

Monthly sessions provide a regular cadence of learning, application and review of results. Within the sessions, group members learn from each other and with each other. They also role play and participate in experiential activities to apply learning and get real-time feedback. Homework assignments apply the learning to the leaders' teams and direct reports, as well as with supervisors and peers. These sessions provide accountability and opportunity for exploration, growth and reflection on new behaviors and habits implemented by the participants. The group coach is also accessible between sessions via email or text to support group members individually.

The Outcome

Following completion of the final session, a survey will be given to all participants to evaluate the sessions and overall impact of the program. A progress and results update will be scheduled with the sponsor. Progress toward planned objectives will be measured by the means outlined in the initial strategy session with the sponsor. A path forward and recommendation for next steps will result from this meeting. Leader development support can be continued beyond the initial engagement as agreed to by participants and the sponsor.
