Try, Try, Again and Again

Last week’s message focused on the power of intent and I want to take that further with the opposite of intent and that is “try”.  I hear it often in my work with clients and there are a couple of levels that this works on…let me try to explain.

First, I cannot try to explain.  I either explain it or I don’t.  If I stopped here that would be the “did not explain” part.  Yet by continuing on I am explaining it, in words and in doing.  It is possible that I am unsuccessful in my explanation; that I fail to make clear that try is the opposite of intent.  That I did means that I did not try.  I may need to do it again to refine my efforts and make my point more clear.  The fact is that I did.

So there is no such thing as try.  You either do it or you don’t.  You try new food.  No, the only way to decide if you like a new food is to actually eat it – that is doing.  You may decide that you do not like the new food and you do not continue to eat it, however you did take action to come to that conclusion.

When I hear “try”, I know my client is not committed to the change or idea that could unstick them.  They have not committed; the intent is not there.  You cannot try to change your life.  You do change your life.

If my message lacked clarity, then tune in next week and you will know Why.
