How do I know I am on the right path when I undertake something new as an adult? Given our experience growing up in this world, we have learned that not everything we undertake is a rip-roaring success from the first move. Remember the story about the bike?
As adults, we become more cautious in our approach to new things. We remember the scraped knee or broken arm, the temporary failures. Rather than truly committing to a new venture we tell ourselves, and family, friends, etc., that we are going to “try” this new thing.
So I challenge you, if you are using the word “try” in your attempts to do something new, somewhere, somehow, you are not committed to the undertaking. Doubt, fear or some other negative emotion is causing you to hold back. I am going to try to lose weight. Really? Haven’t you already given yourself an out, the possibility that you might not be successful?
Do-over!
I am going to reach my goal weight of XXX by exercising three times per week and cutting out sodas. You know that these steps will take you in the direction of your goal. Will it be enough to get you there? You do not know and neither does anyone else. You only know by doing, adjusting and continuing on until you reach your desired outcome. Go for it!
