Second Article in the Series:
Discover, Dare & Dream
In order to Discover, one of the components of this series, you have to be able to see what there is to discover. Our “vision” is often times blocked by all the clutter we have in our lives, both mental and physical.
Where do you have clutter in your life? Is it physical clutter? Documents piled on your desk, the file cabinet, the table, the new filing cabinet called the floor! Do you struggle to find things, frustrated they aren’t at your fingertips?
Is your garage no longer a garage, but a parking space for items without a home? Is there a children’s toy collection, but the “children” are in college? How about the junk drawer? Would you like to give it a new name? Do you have nothing to wear but a closet full of clothes?
These are just a few examples of physical clutter. Yes, I have heard time and time again, “I know where everything is” or “I’m waiting for the children to have their own children” or “I’ll lose weight and get back into those clothes.” Let’s recognize these for what they are – excuses NOT to move forward. How many excuses do you have?
Oh, did you just realize that all this physical clutter is cluttering your mind, as well? Excuses, reasonings, apologies such as this take up valuable real estate in your brain. Every time you see the cluttered office, you justify it and then resolve that one day you will clean it up. What a waste of brain space and energy! Imagine the feeling of walking into your office each day and feeling refreshed and ready for the day ahead with plenty of space to work on your clean desk, knowing you can locate any item needed. Imagine that you started the day off energized and not fussing at yourself for not being able to choose something to wear from that closet full of clothes.
If you didn’t do some cleaning out over the holiday season, now is the time to do it. You can’t begin to explore the possibilities available to you if you can’t see them. If your life and mind is cluttered, you are undermining what is possible for you.
