Just in time for the upcoming webinar, “Top-Down and Bottom-Up: How to Get Your Life and Business Under Control” the Financial Planning Association (FPA) Research and Practice Institute released its study on time management, “Doing More with Less.” You can find the full report and press release here.
The study confirms what I see and experience with my clients on a daily basis. A lack of vision for the direction of the firm results in scattered or ineffective priorities for the day-to-day work — not only for what is done — but how it is accomplished, or not. Overwhelm sets in due to the magnitude of information and input and requests for an advisor’s time. The focus becomes surviving the day, addressing the urgent without the space or time to even consider where one is headed.
“Top-Down and Bottom-Up” addresses what is revealed in the FPA study and what I often hear: “I am too much in the weeds to think about strategy and vision.” Got it! Let’s help you get out of the weeds with some basic time management principles so you can create time and space to develop vision and strategy to further refine your processes, your team and the clients you serve.
What could this look like for you? In a recent coaching session with a client, she shared that she had purchased greeting and gift cards to give to her staff for Administrative Professionals day on April 23rd. You could hear the joy in her voice as she shared and looked forward to showing her appreciation. The joy was magnified when I reminded her that just a mere six weeks ago, the concept of having time and space for a proactive thought was a completely foreign idea.
There are no magic bullets or secret strategies for “doing more with less.” You have to want out of the urgency and addictive nature of running from fire to fire, of shooting from the hip and seeing if you can just get by. If feeling in control and “getting more out of your day” is what you desire (only 13% of advisors in the study reported feeling in control) then register now for the free webinar on April 29th. For those of you who can’t wait and want more personalized support, reach out to me at 713-705-3815.
Either route you choose, I look forward to talking with you!
