How You Do “Anything” is a Reflection of your Life

You’ve likely heard this adage at some point: “How you do anything is how you do everything.” As I worked on my goals and plans for 2014, I heard this quote again and this time it gave me pause.

Be Bold is my theme for 2014 (read here to learn how this came about) and when I heard the quote, I realized how important, “how you do anything is how you do everything.” I can generate thousands of ideas for cool things to do and explore — for business, pleasure, family — almost anything (and I used to think I was not creative!). Yet many, many, many of these ideas simply go to a resting spot somewhere in my mind, never to be acted upon.

It could be that I suffer a bit from an overactive mind. Does the brightness and shininess of a new idea banish previous ideas to a dark corner? Or is it that failing to follow through on these ideas leaves my mind whirling, looking for yet the next idea that will finally rouse me to action?

Since I think it is more of the latter, Be Bold is my call to take action on the ideas my mind generates. Not every one of them; goodness I would never sleep! However, I can sift through the ideas and choose those that take me in the direction of my goals. Having written goals is key for this to be successful. Some ideas will work out and others will be less productive. I will learn from each which will spawn more ideas; however, the new ideas will be infused with the experience of the previous, with the end result being more productive ideas focused on the outcome of my written goals.

How is “how you do anything is how you do everything” reflected in your life? Is it taking you in the direction you want to go?
