A Place to Grow

As we quickly move toward the holiday season, our thoughts turn to making sure we close out the year strong, particularly for business. At the same time, we also begin thinking about the next year. Many of you have plans for off-site strategy sessions to chart the course for the year ahead. I encourage you to include time to reflect on the current year.  This is the place to grow.

Sometimes we don’t want to look at the past but this is a place from where we can grow.

It’s gone and cannot be changed. It may be disappointing and we would just rather move on. At other times, we get caught in the past, reflecting and telling stories to relive or rewrite the past. Instead, let’s look to the past to learn from, to evaluate, to fully understand where we are.

Life’s not perfect and our progress in it is rarely a straight line to the top. When we invest the time to plan for the future, we need to plan to evaluate the past. Only then will we know where we truly stand and that is the only place from which we can grow. It is also called “the present” and isn’t that what today is?
