What Do I See?

Mirror, mirror on the wall…mirror 2 (3)

I am not who I see at all.

This is not quite the fairy tale line* we all know.  In the fairy tale, the reflection gives the answer that is sought, for a period of time, and then the answer changes when true beauty is seen.   What if you could find a mirror that speaks the truth about you?

When you want something different in your life, for something to change, often the first look is to the outside world, blaming it for our challenges and strife.  You point your finger, not realizing that as you do, three fingers on your hand are pointing back at the one person who actually has the ability to create change – you!  When you see that clearly, the reflection in the mirror will take on a different appearance. You begin to see yourself in a different light; perhaps an unflattering light at first as you recognize that your choices made you who you are.  A difficult realization at times, however that is where true power lies, in your ability to choose.  Once you accept that, you can move forward embracing the awareness that you are in control, that you do have the ability to influence the outcome of your life.  As you continue to gaze upon that reflection you recognize that along the way, you’ve accomplished some pretty amazing things. And the light in the mirror shifts again and the reflection changes and you see the glimmers and emergence of the true you.

While at times ugly, raw and chaotic, the reflection in the mirror can lead you to the life you’ve dreamed of as long as you are willing to ask the question:  Mirror, mirror on the wall truly do I see me at all?

*Note:  In researching this famous quote “Mirror, mirror on the wall, who is the fairest one of all?”, I discovered that it is actually one of the greatest movie misquotes.  In the animated classic “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs” the actual line is “Magic Mirror on the wall, who is the fairest one of all?”
