The last several messages have dealt with goal setting and the importance of using different modes of learning to form new habits. You have to adopt a different way of doing things if you want your results to be different. That requires learning.
We have visual, auditory and kinesthetic as methods by which adults learn and process information. First, we focused on auditory or “Saying Power“. That is stating your goals out loud and sharing it with those around you. You may even want to do as one of my clients has done and share your goals with clients, where appropriate. Who better to help you build your business than those already a consumer?
The next mode is writing. Put your goals in ink. “The palest ink is better than the sharpest memory” is a familiar Chinese proverb. With all the information and opportunities we are bombarded with daily, our goals can quickly fade from memory.
For the final step we want to engage our kinesthetic (doing) mode of learning. How can we do this with our goals? By taking action! Unless there is some action behind your goals, what you’ve written down and expressed to others is simply a wish list.
What is the first step you need to take to move the needle toward the goal you want to achieve? Do you need to do research or have informational interviews with those who have succeeded where you wish to succeed? Do you need to take a course? How about developing a networking strategy? How can you serve if you want to contribute to an organization? Do you need to outsource? Is it implementing a family meeting time? Does your resume need tweaking?
These, and many more, can be first steps to get you moving in the direction of your dreams. Step out there, and then keep stepping. You will find the power of momentum kicks in once you kick-start yourself in the direction of your dreams!
