Planting the Seeds

Sometimes an idea or project we would like to achieve seems nearly impossible. Yet once we open ourselves to the possibility, that we embrace it rather than dismiss it, incredible things can happen.

A few weeks back my trainer, Marie Morgan, opened my eyes to the possibility that my horse and I were ready to learn an upper-level movement in our dressage training. That was step one in the process of preparing for the possibility. The next was to actually do something about it. Marie suggested that a very effective way for Usache and me to learn the movement would be to train on it three times per day for three days in a row. What a commitment among all my other commitments! Alternatively, we could train once per day for a week and achieve similar results. This seemed like a more viable alternative. Yet, the seed was planted and as I looked at my calendar toward the end of one week, a Friday presented the opportunity to begin three times per day for three days.

At the end of day two, Usache got the movement! He has a natural talent for it, piaffe, and perhaps we would have gotten it training once a day for week. We will never know. What matters here is that the seed was planted. Through the awareness created by my trainer (you are ready for this) and the suggestion of a means to get there (3 times per day for 3 days), Usache and I have transitioned to a different phase in our training, allowing us to do more and grow at an accelerated rate. I have learned and grown tremendously in the process, all because my eyes were opened and the seed planted.

How can you uncover an awareness that will take you to the next level?
