The Face of Change

After peering in our mirror and realizing we are the agent for change in our life, what does change look like?

We are all familiar with the face of dramatic change. It peers at us every night from our flat screen TV’s. Hmmm…isn’t it interesting how televisions are becoming more like mirrors? Reality TV has brought dramatic change to our living room, and with it, the possibility that our lives can undergo such a radical transformation as well. It does happen. We see it every night. But most of us are not singing, dancing, losing massive amounts of weight or transforming our home. We actually are in the process of transforming our kitchen and I can assure you it has not gone nearly as quickly as reality TV!

The true reality is that change is more of a gradual process. Yes, we all experience those events, marriage, relocation, a birth, a death that suddenly and radically transform our lives. For most of the change we want to see in our lives the process is more gradual. It may begin as a desire for things to be different. That desire, if we move it to intent, then drives us to seek out ways to make change happen. We may be unaware that anything is happening at all until we realize the change we sought has manifested.

Other times the change is messy, chaotic, full of upheaval and uncertainty. It may shake us to the core as we look in the mirror realizing that we do not like what is reflected. As disturbing as this may be, it is the wake-up call that we need to move our lives in a new direction.

While your change may not happen in a neatly arranged 1-hour time period with commercial breaks, know that reality is figuring it out and moving forward at your own pace. This is the real face of change.
